{"id":620,"date":"2010-01-14T10:31:13","date_gmt":"2010-01-14T17:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.stuzog.com\/dandeliontimes\/?p=620"},"modified":"2010-01-14T10:31:13","modified_gmt":"2010-01-14T17:31:13","slug":"ways-of-cain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.stuzog.com\/dandeliontimes\/2010\/01\/14\/ways-of-cain\/","title":{"rendered":"Ways of Cain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nWorld is a staircase Man has tried to climb <br \/>\n&mdash; Beasts, stars, the slag of flesh.<br \/>\nThey served him as ascending steps<br \/>\nAs he clutched high along the path<br \/>\nof his rebel&rsquo;ous mind.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nRebellion or adaptation?<br \/>\nFrom these two ways that creatures earnestly beseech<br \/>\nthe former is sheer madness<br \/>\n(for Nature never yields);<br \/>\nYet who can stop a madman from his craze?<br \/>\nSome&rsquo;ve chosen adaptation &mdash; thus<br \/>\nthey&rsquo;s hushed forever at a trodden step.<br \/>\nThe beast is fit for Nature&rsquo;s bends<br \/>\nBut Man rows stubbornly to ancient chaos:<br \/>\nHe worships war,<br \/>\nCreates through doubt,<br \/>\nAnd gains a firm hold through negation.<br \/>\nHe is an architect,<br \/>\nBut chisel he employs is death,<br \/>\nHis clay-capricious mind inside him.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOnce, in the dark of ages,<br \/>\nshaggy beast went out of mind<br \/>\nand turned into a Man <br \/>\n&mdash; Most evil and perilous beast on Earth &mdash;<br \/>\nInsane with logic,<br \/>\nand obsessed by faith;<br \/>\nIntelligence became a cursing of Creation;<br \/>\nMan left his stains across the way:<br \/>\nDissected life and put in into numbers,<br \/>\nHe muzzled nature\ts roots<br \/>\nand probed its substance;<br \/>\nLike a parasite,<br \/>\nHe sucked the earth<br \/>\nuntil it suffered inextinguishable pain;<br \/>\nHe sought the keys for sacred truths,<br \/>\nReleased the titans, dressed them into iron,<br \/>\nHe harnessed them for an exhaustive work;<br \/>\nHe changed the world but could not change himself;<br \/>\nHe&rsquo;s gotten lost in his own caves,<br \/>\nHe turned into a slave of his own servants.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"crosshead\">\n&mdash; Maximilian Voloshin<br \/>\n25 January 1923<\/p>\n<p>(Trans. by Victor Postnikov)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>World is a staircase Man has tried to climb &mdash; Beasts, stars, the slag of flesh.
